Graduate & Student Placement

Companies are invited to make presentations and in the process gain exposure on campus, thereby giving students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the world of work.

The Graduate and Student Placement Unit runs the following Programmes for students and employers:

Law Recruitment Programme

This Programme is aimed at all levels. Law firms have opportunities for vacation work and bursaries. It also focuses on recruiting final year students for candidate attorney positions.

Final year LLB and BCom Law students for candidate attorneys, from 1st year students for vacation work and bursaries. 3 - 13 April 2017 November of the preceding year
Graduate Recruitment Programme

Is a cost-effective way to earmark and recruit top-final year students in the fields of:

  • Business & Economic Sciences;
  • Engineering, IT and the Built Environment;
  • Law;
  • Science;
  • Health Sciences;
  • Arts and
  • Education
All students of Nelson Mandela University April to September December of the preceding year

 

Computing Sciences and IT Careers Fair

Accounting and Law Day To create a platform where employers exhibit opportunities available to students, giving them the opportunity of personal interaction specific to Accounting and Law students All Nelson Mandela University Accounting and Law students 3 August 2017 December of the preceding year
External & Internal Ad hoc placements

Applicable to students seeking part time and ad hoc placement, e.g. handing out flyers, student assistantship, stocktaking, compiling of databases or any other small jobs.

Both the Graduate & Student Placement and the Co-operative Education units keep databases of students who seek ad hoc employment.

External Full-time Employment We offer an external full-time employment service to our students and alumni by calling for CVs and forwarding them to companies should the need arise. Current students&Alumni of Nelson Mandela University all year None

 

Our office also provides the following services to employers:

  • Contact the students and advertise company visits via electronic media and posters on campus noticeboards.
  • Publish company presentation details in the in-house Graduate Recruitment Programme Booklet and via e-mail.
  • Provide/sell advertising space in the GRP and LRP booklet at a minimal cost
  • Collect CVs in response to company adverts on behalf of employers
  • Schedule interviews where shortlists are received a week before the appointment date.
  • Interview and assessment rooms on campus
  • Refreshments are included during campus visits (Interviews and Assessments)
